I’m now a Published Poet

Posted in Book Review, Haikus

I’m excited to share my latest book. It’s called 101 Haikus. My books follow my blog. I realized I was writing a lot of haikus. WHen I found out I had seventy already, I put myself to the challenge of creating thirty-one original haikus to create this book. If someone would have told me five years ago that I would publish a book of poetry, I would have said they’re crazy. Funny how life evolves. I’m glad to have taken on a different creative challenge. Here is the preface to my book, 101 Haikus. Enjoy!

A haiku is a type of poetry. It follows a pattern of 1st line 5 syllables, 2nd line 7 syllables, 3rd line 5 syllables. I’ve written quite a few this year in 2017.

There are a few reasons for that. The first is practicality. My goal is to post on this blog every single day in 2017. Creating a piece of content for 365 days in a row is an ambitious goal. Somedays I wake up and don’t what to write. Other times I’m traveling all over and not sure on the wifi signal. Haikus are seventeen syllables in all and I can write them in a bind. That’s what this series started as.

Now I’m really getting into the haikus. I like the challenge of the constraint. I like the challenge to tell a whole story in so few words. I like the challenge of conveying what a moment in time represented for me. I like the challenge of showing others my life in so few words.

That’s what a haiku is for me.
